Ladies Lead 2-0 at the Half; Fall 4-2 to Eastern

(October 3, 2023) Wilburton, Oklahoma - Coming off a home win against Redlands, the ladies were looking to build momentum against Eastern Oklahoma on Tuesday. The Bucks are still fighting for a playoff berth heading into their final 6 matches of the season.

As the old cliché goes, this was truly "a game of two halves." UARM was 2-0 up at halftime but ended up on the losing end of a 4-2 scoreline. Carla Todd (Lochgilphead, United Kingdom) scored from a penalty kick, and Jasmin Nielsen (Aabybro, Denmark) scored on the dribble after being put in behind from a punt by goalkeeper Jazmine Pacheco (Tulsa, OK). Eastern had most of the possession, but didn't really threaten the goal of UARM, because of some stout defending and a well organized team shape. UARM always looked dangerous on the counter attack and had some good looks at goal which could have really turned the game their way.

The second half started in much the same way as the first half, but Eastern began playing more direct with long balls being played into the heart of the UARM defense as they became more desperate to get into the game. It was from a long ball ball forward which resulted in a thrown in for Eastern which provided them that gateway into the game. The ball was thrown into the penalty box and as Jazmine Pacheco hesitated, the Eastern striker poked the ball home. Very soon after, UARM had the chance to finish the game off when Jasmin Nielsen was once again fouled in the box for a penalty kick, but sadly, Carla Todd had her kick saved. Eastern drove forward and scored two late goals to finish with the 4-2 win.

Coach Sherry was upbeat after the loss. "I thought the ladies were almost perfect today.  Their organization and discipline was outstanding, and I truly believe that if that second penalty kick had gone in to make it 3-1, we would have held on for the win.  It was not to be but I am proud as to how competitive the ladies made the game against a strong Eastern team.  Special mention to MJ Rosas (Surprise, AZ) who was a rock at the back for UARM."

The ladies catch a short break before being back in action on October 8th against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 pm.
