Nielsen & Todd Score a Pair; Bucks Beat Redlands

Nielsen & Todd Score a Pair; Bucks Beat Redlands

The game started under high temperatures which reflected in the quality of the play, with many misplaced passes and heavy controlling touches in general play on both sides. Midway through the first half, Redlands got on the score sheet first when a long ball caused panic in the UARM back line, and the ball fell to the striker for an easy open goal tap in. UARM started to pick up their game and create opportunities for themselves, and it was from a through ball in the 35th minute by Maegan Hill (Benton, AR) that UARM got the equalizing goal. Jasmin Nielsen (Aabybro, Denmark) ran onto the pass, dribbled 20 yards, and finished strongly with a high shot into the center of the goal. However, all that hard work to get back into the game was thrown away, when only 1 minute later, a Redlands forward was given too much time and space on the edge of the penalty area to shoot and find the corner of the net. The teams went into the break with Redlands one goal to the good, despite a very even half of soccer.

UARM changed things up for the second half pushing Kyla Ferguson (Wickes, AR) up front to partner Jasmin Nielsen and dropping Carla Todd (Lochgilphead, United Kingdom) into midfield to get her more shooting opportunities. It was from one of these shots that UARM tied the game up when a free kick from Carla Todd squeezed into the corner of the goal after deflecting off the wall. The next goal in the game would be important, and UARM got it after Jasmin Nielsen was fouled in the penalty area. Carla Todd stepped forward and scored low past the goalkeeper from the resulting penalty kick to make it 3-2.If UARM thought that Redlands would be finished, they were proven wrong. Once again after scoring themselves, UARM conceded a goal only minutes after, and once again, the UARM failed to move out to put pressure on a shooter who had the freedom of the field to place her shot into the top corner for 20 yards out. UARM was deflated, but many of them still believed they could go on and win the game. In the 82nd minute UARM scored what would be that winning goal. Maegan Hill played a beautiful pass through to Jasmin Nielsen who turned and shot left footed sending the ball over the head of the goalkeeper for that last goal of the game. There was still time for more chances for both teams. UARM hit the crossbar after the goal, and Redlands came very close with only seconds left on the clock as the ball just missed the far post from a curling shot. The Bucks would win 4-3. The win evened their overall record at 6-6 on the year and 4-6 in region play.
