Ladies Miss Opportunities at Home Against Rose State

Ladies Miss Opportunities at Home Against Rose State

(September 20, 2023) Mena, Arkansas - Coming off a loss to the now third ranked team in the country, the slate doesn't get easier for the ladies as they took on tradition rich Rose State College in a match this morning at Tapley Park. Game times were pushed up to 10 am due to weather and potential field conditions.

UARM was very organized from the start closing gaps between players, and the lines which enabled to blunt the Rose State attacks. UARM was able to create numerous chances themselves with smart counter attacking play, but the strikers were unable to take advantage of any of them. The game changed in the latter stages of the first half when a corner kick was needlessly given away by a UARM defender, and Rose State managed to shoot the ball into the net after failing to clear the ball. UARM had a golden chance in the last minute of the half when Jasmin Nielsen (Aabybro, Denmark) was through on goal but chose the wrong option, and the chance went away.

The second half followed the pattern of the first half with UARM keeping Rose State at bay and creating good looks themselves, but the last pass was missing in those UARM attacks. As the game was coming to an end, UARM was caught again with a defensive mistake, which allowed Rose State to extend their lead. The ladies kept pushing despite the score line and were rewarded with a goal from Jasmin Nielsen who chipped the goalkeeper after running onto a through ball from her strike partner Carla Todd (Lochgilphead, United Kingdom). UARM kept pushing, but the clock defeated them at the end.

After the match, Coach Sherry is please with his team's progress through the season. "It has been a challenge trying to balance the need to practice together with the need for proper recovery between games due to the limited numbers on the roster. The whole team stayed organized and stayed positive throughout the whole game. I am happy to see the improvements the ladies are making week to week."
