Ladies Shutout NEO at Home

(September 18, 2022) Mena, Arkansas – After a week off from Region II competition, the Bucks return to region play this afternoon at Aubrey D. Tapley Park. The ladies went 1-1 on the week against Crowder College and Neosho County Community College in their non-region contests. The Bucks were taking on Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College this afternoon. The Bucks enter the contest 1-3 in region play, while the Lady Norse are 0-4.

The Bucks wanted to start fast and did. After the Bucks possessed for the first five minutes of the match, the Lady Norse countered, but it was short lived. The Bucks would make their own run and made it count. Kenya Martinez (De Queen, AR) played a square ball in front of the net for Morgan Johnson (Rowlett, TX), and the sophomore found the back of the net to make it 1-0 for the Bucks at 7:53. After the kickoff, the Bucks continued to possess and keep the ball on the offensive end of the field. Consecutive corners led to another Morgan Johnson goal (14:53). This time, Maradona Vilca (Hickory Creek, TX) took the corner kick and Jess Douglas (Gateshead, England) found the feet of Johnson to make it 2-0. After the midway water break, the Bucks continued to possess and hold the ball on their end of the field. In the half, the Bucks took 7 corner kicks and made the last one of the half count. At 43:50, Maradona Vilca took the corner kick and found the head of Jess Douglas for a goal to make it 3-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, the Bucks picked up where they left off. The match was played on the Bucks end of the field, and the Bucks kept attacking until Abbie Sunners (Liverpool, England) found the back of the net from outside the 18-yard box to extend the Bucks lead in the 53rd minute. The game would remain 4-0 at the midway water break. The Bucks had opportunities to score in the final twenty minutes, but the match would end in a 4-0 win.

The women return to play this coming Wednesday, September 21st, at #3 Seminole State College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm.
