Bucks Advance on Penalty Kicks; First Postseason Win in School History

October 28, 2021 (Enid, Oklahoma) – Looking for their first postseason win in school history, the Rich Mountain Bucks (9-9-0; 8-8-0 in Region 2) faced off against Eastern Oklahoma State in the first round of the NJCAA Region 2 Tournament this afternoon.

In the first half, the Bucks gave up a goal in the first four minutes of the match, but they responded with goals of their own. Maddie Tyler (Tulsa, OK) found the back of the net in the 6th minute from outside the 18-yard box to tie the match at 1-1. Six minutes later, Jess Douglas (Gateshead, England) played a ball down field and found the feet of Remmie Ferla (Corby, England). Ferla also put a shot on frame from outside the 18 to give the Bucks at 2-1 lead.

In the second half, the Bucks came out flat, and Eastern took advantage with a goal in the 56th minute to tie the match at 2-2. Late in the half, the Bucks looked to force overtime. Goalkeeper Melanie Glossup (Allen, TX) made a couple great saves to keep the Bucks and Mountaineers tied.

In overtime, both teams went back and forth, but there were no successful goals to send the game to penalty kicks.

In the penalty kicks, Bailey Tillotson (Sherman, TX) led off with a goal before Melanie Glossup made another save that gave the Bucks an advantage. Jess Douglas and Morgan Johnson (Rowlett, TX) both were successful on their attempts. After 2 successful Eastern goals, the Bucks next attempt was off target. Eastern made another attempt, but all the Bucks needed to do was make a goal for the win. Remmie Ferla did just that as the Bucks advance in penalty kicks, 4-3.

The win gave the Bucks their first postseason win in school history for the women. They will advance in the tournament and play Rose State College on Friday at 11:30 am in Enid, OK.
