Men's Cross Country Finishes 26th at Chile Pepper

Article by Olivia Orr

October 1, 2021 (Fayetteville Arkansas) - The 16th ranked Rich Mountain Bucks took the road mid-day to compete at Fayetteville's Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival, where they would compete against many teams from surrounding states. The Bucks are coming off a solid 4th place finish at Southern Arkansas University but would face a much more intense environment, as the Chile Pepper is one of the biggest meets in the nation. In their heat, the men competed against 38 other teams, including Lyon College, University of Arkansas Fort Smith and Hendrix College. The Bucks took the course following the women's team and sought to break personal records while achieving a strong finish and place of 26th.

It was Quinlan Broadway (Fort Smith, AR) who was responsible for leading the Bucks with a time of 29:49.4 and place of 134th.

Trying to keep the gap at a minimum, Miguel Diaz, Jr. (De Queen, AR) and Anthony Sanchez (De Queen, AR) would trail not far behind with placings of 149th (30:19.2) and 159th (30:40.2).

The rest of the team followed accordingly:

160th - Yeremi Comacho-Vazquez (Wister, OK) - 30:41.3

195th - Jhosse Orellana (Springdale, AR) - 31:47.1

199th - Tyreek Gilkey (Fort Smith, AR) - 32:00.9

214th - Pablo Hernandez (Springdale, AR) - 33:21.6

249th - Josh Swint (Mena, AR) - 38:30.9
