Bucks Fall in Series at Western Oklahoma

(April 15, 2023) Altus, Oklahoma - The Bucks are heading into the home stretch of their season with just three region series left on their schedule after their 4-game series this weekend with Western Oklahoma State. The Bucks and Pioneers have quite the history in the three seasons of Bucks Baseball. In 2021, the Bucks split with the Pioneers in Altus during the regular season before beating the Pioneers in the second round of the region tournament. The two would meet in the finals, where the Bucks fell twice to the Pioneers. Last season, the Bucks took 3 of 4 games at home against Western Oklahoma.

This season, the Pioneers bested the Bucks in all four games, 8-0, 10-0, 6-3, and 6-5 (11 innings).

  • The Bucks mustered only 8 runs in the four games on 28 hits. Cooper White (Benton, AR) and Trent Smith (Longview, TX) led the Bucks with 4 hits a piece.
  • Five Bucks had extra base hits in the series. Brett Justice (Jacksonville, AR), Casey Shipley (Praire Grove, AR), and Ethan Perry (Benton, AR) each hit a double. White hit a triple, while Trevor Flake hit the squad's only home run of the series.
  • Shipley, Flake, and White each drove in 2 runs a piece.
  • Shipley, White, and Randon Ray (Booneville, AR) each were hit by a pitch in the four games.
  • The Bucks stole 6 bases, led by Cooper White with 4.
  • Jack Henry Pettit (Brookland, AR) had the teams best start on the mound, giving up 5 runs on 12 hits in 8.0 innings of work.
  • The pitchers struck out 15 hitters, while walking 11 and hitting 2 on the weekend.
  • The Bucks committed 8 errors in the series.

The Bucks will play a JV doubleheader on Monday against Henderson State University before beginning a region series with NOC-Tonkawa on Thursday in Oklahoma.
