Bucks Take Series over Murray State

(May 4, 2022) Mena, Arkansas – On sophomore day on Wednesday, the 14th ranked Bucks won a pair in the 27 sophomores last game at Union Bank Field before graduating on Thursday evening. The Bucks travelled to Tishomingo, Oklahoma this morning to conclude their regular season at Murray State College.

GAME FOUR

After falling in the first game this afternoon, the Bucks looked to rebound in the series deciding game with the Aggies. Ike Pelts (Lamar, AR) got his first start of the season this afternoon. He would last 4.2 innings, giving up 5 runs (4 earned). He struck out 2 and walked 4 in the outing.

The Bucks trailed 1-0 heading into the fourth inning and got some offense going in the top of the fourth. After a lead off single, Cooper White (Benton, AR) hit a 2-run homer to right field to give the Bucks the lead. After a hit-by-pitch and 1 out, Eli Garrison (North Little Rock, AR) hit a RBI single to right field to make it 3-1. The Aggies cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom half, before taking the lead on a 3-run bottom of the fifth inning. The Bucks trailed 5-3.

Cooper Perry (Avinger, TX) came on to pitch in the bottom of the fifth inning and pitched a scoreless sixth inning before the Bucks regained the lead on one swing of the bat in the top of the seventh. Wesley Featherston (Hope, AR) hit a 3-run homer over the left field fence to give the Bucks a 1-run lead, 6-5.

Perry put up another zero in the bottom of the seventh, before the Bucks scratched across a pair of runs to extend their lead. Cole Clark (Clarksville, AR) walked with the bases loaded and 1 out to plate a run.  Next at-bat, Trace Watkins (Sheridan, AR) scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-5.

Another zero by Perry in the bottom of the eighth sent the game into the final inning. The Bucks took a big lead in the top of the ninth inning. After a lead off walk, Isaac Price (Siloam Springs, AR) hit a RBI double to score pinch runner Will Dolan (Sugarland, TX). With 1 out and the bases loaded, Cole Clark cleared the bases with a 3-RBI double. Next at-bat, Daniel Taylor (Rogers, AR) hit a 2-run bomb over the left field fence to give the Bucks a 10-run lead heading into the final three outs of the game.

Daegan Covington (Taylor, AR) came in to pitch the final inning. He would record a pair of strike outs in the inning. Bucks win 15-5.

Cooper Perry (2-2) pitched 3.1 innings, giving up 0 runs on 2 hits. He would strike out and walk a hitter apiece in the win.
