Bucks Drop Opener at Babe Howard Classic

Bucks Drop Opener at Babe Howard Classic

(February 25, 2022) Millington, Tennessee - Looking to continue their momentum from the series win last week, the Bucks made the journey across the state to the home of USA Baseball for the Babe Howard JUCO Classic this weekend. The Bucks opened their 3-game stand with Iowa Central. The Bucks and Tritons met last year in Millington, where the Bucks took the game 7-2.

In a game that looked promising for the Bucks turned south in the middle innings. The Bucks held a 2-0 lead, but the Tritons made the most of walks and errors to plate 6 runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to eventually win 7-3.

Daniel Taylor (Rogers, AR) singled to lead off top of the first and then stole second. He would later score with 2 outs on RBI single by Luke Rice (Scott, AR). Three innings later, Jackson Baker (Sherwood, AR) led off the fourth with a double and would score on the next at-bat. Brayden Sites (Sheridan, AR) hit a RBI single to push the Bucks lead to 2-0. The Tritons would take the lead in the bottom half with 3 runs off starting pitcher Randy Little Jr. (Pine Bluff, AR) and added 3 more runs in the bottom of the fifth off reliever Jackson Wells (Rogers, AR) to lead 6-2 after five innings.

After a scoreless sixth, Chase Webb (El Dorado, AR) doubled down the left field line to lead off the inning. Three hitters later, Luke Rice picked up his second RBI on the day with a single to cut the lead to 6-3, but the Tritons plated another run in the bottom of the eighth to make it 7-3, which would be the final score.

Randy Little Jr. (1-1) took the loss. He would give up 3 runs on 3 hits in 3.1 innings of work, while striking out 2 and walking 6 in the outing.

The Bucks have little time to digest the loss with a doubleheader tomorrow morning. The games start at 10 am at USA Baseball.
