Bucks Beat Pirates; Advance to Next Round of Plains District Tournament

(May 16, 2021) Enid, Oklahoma – After finishing the regular season with a series win, the Bucks travelled to David Allen Memorial Ballpark for the NJCAA Plains District Tournament. The Bucks come into the tournament as the 5 seed and faced the Region 16 qualifier, North Central Missouri, in the opening round.

The Bucks went scoreless to get the game started. Morrilton's Maddox Long got the start on the mound and went to work. Through 7 innings, he would give up 2 hits and stranded a couple of runners in the bottom of the seventh after giving up back-to-back walks.

The Bucks got things going offensively in the top of the third inning. Chase Webb (El Dorado, AR) led off with a single. With 1 out, Mason Reynolds (Fort Worth, TX) singled. Next at-bat, Dan Taylor (Rogers, AR) hit a 2 RBI double for the Bucks to take the 2-0 lead.

Maddox Long cruised until the seventh inning, when he got out of the inning on a pop fly. That would be his final out of the game. Coming on to pitch the eighth was Drake Fontenot (Bossier City, LA). Drake would record 3 strikeouts in the bottom half to send the game to the final inning.

After a scoreless ninth for the Bucks, Drake Fontenot would get 3 strikeouts in the inning to seal the win and pick up the 2 inning save.

Maddox Long got the win and recorded 3 strikeouts in 7 innings of work.

The Bucks play tomorrow evening at 7 pm against the winner of Western Oklahoma and NOC-Tonkawa.
