(October 9, 2024) Tishomingo, Oklahoma - Looking for a couple of wins to seal their postseason fate, the ladies travelled to Murray State College on Wednesday for a region match. Earlier this season, the Bucks and Aggies played to a 1-1 draw at Tapley Park. This game was an important factor in the Region II Tournament seedings.
This was not a game for the soccer intellectuals to enjoy as both teams played a kick and run style hoping for mistakes by the opponents to score from. The goal in the first half was given to Murray State when a high ball was not cleared and was in fact played to a striker facing the goal. The resulting shot flew into the roof of the net. Both teams had chances to score, but all other opportunities were squandered. UARM trailed 1-0 at halftime.
UARM equalized in the second half when Lidia Rodriguez Dominguez (Ourense, Spain) lifted her shot over the goalkeepers head. Both teams traded long balls with each other for the rest of the half. The Bucks had a chance to win it at the end, but the shot from 5 yards went over the goal. Murray went straight down the other end with a long ball which Bucks couldn't control, and the ball fell to a midfielder who was left free to shoot and find the top corner for the winning goal in the last 2 minutes of the game.
Coach Sherry was disappointed for his team after the match. "It was a disappointing way to end the game, but those are the breaks. We could have won it, and 30 seconds later we lost it. To come away with nothing after putting so much work into it is frustrating, but we have to keep the faith we can finish in the top 5."
After a much needed break, the ladies have an important matchup against the region's #3 team in the standings, NOC-Enid. The teams played to a 0-0 draw early this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm at Tapley Park on Wednesday, October 16th.
