Ladies Draw with Eastern

Ladies Draw with Eastern

(October 1, 2024) Wilburton, Oklahoma - After an 8-1 win on Sunday to round out the first round of region play, the ladies began a tough week of games this afternoon on the road at Eastern Oklahoma State College. Earlier this season, the Bucks took down Eastern 5-2 at Tapley Park to begin region play.

Eastern from the start was full of energy as they kept possession of the ball waiting for the gaps to emerge in the Bucks defensive shape to penetrate. UARM struggled to deal with any high ball coming into the heart of the defense. Eastern continued to pick up the miss kicks and miss clearances which were proving more and more foreboding for UARM. The almost predictable outcome arrived just before half time when a loose ball was given away, and Eastern broke away to score down the left side of the goal across the goalkeeper.

UARM decided to mix things up, and changed their strategy and system of play to reflect a more attacking approach. The change worked, and UARM took the lead with two goals from Carla Todd (Lochgilphead, United Kingdom) driving the ball under the crossbar with copycat powerful strikes.

Eastern was desperate to get the goal back and threw everything at UARM. The Bucks held firm, but cracked just a few minutes from the end, conceding from a corner kick to draw 2-2 with the Mountaineers.

Coach Sherry stated afte the game, "The ladies have been playing an exhausting schedule, and it showed in the first half. The 2nd half was much better and took a deserved lead after two wonder shots from Carla. It was upsetting to once again let a goal in from another corner, but we will be positive and take the point on the road."

The ladies have a few days rest before hitting the road at #3 Seminole State on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm.
