Bucks Surrender Lead; Fall in Second Overtime to Aggies

(September 4, 2022) Tishomingo, Oklahoma – Coming off their first win of the season this past week at Redlands, the ladies looked to continue their momentum in region play at Murray State College. The Bucks enter the match 1-1 in region play, while the Aggies are 0-2 in this early season.

The first half saw both teams have opportunities to score. The Bucks defense and goalkeeper Melanie Glossup (Allen, TX) had a busy first half fighting off the Aggies attack. Glossup recorded 7 saves in the half to keep the Aggies scoreless. The Bucks only took 4 shots in the half with 3 being on target. The Bucks took the lead in the 34th minute. After an Aggie foul, Maradona Vilca (Hickory Creek, TX) took a free kick outside the 18-yard box and played it to Morgan Johnson (Rowlett, TX) for one touch and the goal. Almost 6 minutes later, the Bucks got a corner kick and Maradona Vilca this time found Kenya Martinez (De Queen, AR) for the goal to make it 2-0 at the half. Johnson and Martinez are the combo that scored both goals Wednesday against Redlands this past Wednesday.

The first 15 minutes of the second half, the Bucks and Aggies were scoreless until the 64th minute when the Aggies cut the Bucks lead to 2-1. The Bucks did answer to make it 3-1 on an Aggie turnover. Avery Drake (Oklahoma City, OK) took the turnover inside the 18-yard box and found the back of the net in the 67th minute.

The Bucks would surrender their 3-1 lead with goals in the 70th minute and 83rd minute that tied the match at 3-3 and sent it into overtime. The Bucks were only able to get one shot off in the first overtime period, but the Aggies ended the match on a golden goal in the 106th minute to make the final score of 4-3.

The women return to action at home on Wednesday, September 7th, against Eastern Oklahoma State College. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 pm at Tapley Park.
