Softball Run-Rules ASU-Newport

(February 29, 2024) Mena, Arkansas - Coming off a 5-3 last week, the ladies returned to action this afternoon at Cummings-Cecil Field. The ladies took on ASU-Newport in what was supposed to be a doubleheader, but due to weather, the day was shortened to one game. 

It was all Bucks in 5-innings over the Aviators, 9-1. The ladies cranked out 13 hits in the game. Three Bucks had big games at the plate, collecting 3 hits a piece. Madison Heller (Hughes Springs, TX) hit a double with a pair of RBIs on the day, as did Emma Reynolds (Cayuga, TX). Lilli Williams (Granbury, TX) cranked out a pair of doubles and 3 RBIs to continue her hot streak at the plate. 

The ladies took an early 1-0 lead after an inning. Then, blew things open in the bottom of the second with a 6-run inning. The Aviators scored their only run of the game in the top of the third, but the Bucks answered back with another run and ended the game in the fifth to make the final score of 9-1. 

In the circle, McKenna Bittle (Greer's Ferry, AR) pitched 5.0 innings, striking out 5 and walking only one. Bittle (5-2) picked up her fifth win of the season. 

The ladies now turn their attention to region play on Saturday at home. The Bucks take on ASU Mountain Home at Cummings-Cecil Field. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
