Softball Goes 1-3 at Coyote Chillout

(February 24, 2024) Weatherford, Texas - Coming off wins against #9 Seminole State College, the ladies took the road for their longest trip of the season to this point. The Bucks competed against #20 Weatherford College and Navarro College on Friday and Saturday. The ladies competed hard over the weekend and finished 1-3 in the four games. The Bucks went 5-3 on the week and have an overall record of 10-6 on the season. The ladies begin conference play this coming week. 

Game Two - Navarro College

The Bucks only win for the weekend came in Game Two against Navarro College. The ladies walked it off for the third time in a week against the Lady Bulldogs, 6-5. In the win, the ladies collected 15 hits including 6 extra base hits. The big knock came off the bat of Payton Hale (Fort Worth, TX). The solo shot came in the botom of the fifth inning. The Bucks plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the third, fifth, and seventh innings. The biggest hit of the day came from sophomore JJ Bass (Joaquin, TX) in the bottom of the seventh inning. Riley Lowery (Hughes Springs, TX) hit a RBI double earlier in the inning and represented the winning run. With 2 outs and Lowery on third, Bass hit a RBI single to left field to give the Bucks their third walk-off of the week and second 6-5 win.

In the win, Kamryn Uher (Prairie Grove, AR) pitched 5.0 innings in relief. The right hander gave up 3 unearned runs on just 2 hits. Uher (3-0) did not record a strikeout or walk in the outing. Holly Raney (Mayflower, AR) got the start in the circle and went 2.0 innings, giving up 2 unearned runs on 4 hits and striking out a pair. 

Coyote Chillout

On Friday, the ladies held a pair of leads over #20 Weatherford College, but the Coyotes walked it off against the Bucks to win 4-3. On Saturday, the Bucks struggled to get the timely hits with runners in scoring position and fell 4-1 to Weatherford and 7-1 to Navarro.

Going 1-3 on the weekend wasn't what the Bucks had in mind after a big mid-week at home, but the ladies return home battle tested. The Bucks played 8 total games in their week, finishing 5-3 against a pair of NJCAA DI ranked opponents. 

Offensively, the Bucks collected 37 hits in the four games at the Coyote Chillout, including 11 extra base hits. Kate Daigle (Rayne, LA) led the ladies with 5 hits over the weekend, followed by four Bucks with 4 hits. Riley Lowery led with 2 doubles and a pair of RBIs, along with Payton Hale with 2 RBIs. Lilli Williams (Granbury, TX) led with a .733 on-base percentage (OBP), including 5 hit-by-pitches in four games. The biggest stat of the weekend was stranding a total of 68 runners. 

In the circle, Uher picked up the only win of the weekend, pitching 8.0 total innings. The pitching staff gave up 20 runs (12 earned) on 29 hits. The Bucks struck out 8 hitters and walked 9 on the weekend.

The ladies return home for a few days off before returning to action on Thursday the newly renovated Cummings-Cecil Field. Bleachers and the press box went in at the end of the week in preparation of region play beginning on Saturday, March 2nd, against ASU Mountain Home.
