Softball Splits with Northeast Texas

(April 23, 2022) Mena, Arkansas – Coming off a pair of splits this week in Region II play, the Bucks played their third home date of the week on a beautiful Saturday afternoon at McMillan Park. The Bucks faced the Northeast Texas Community College Eagles from Mt. Pleasant, Texas in a non-region doubleheader.

GAME ONE

Blaire Gentry (Lockesburg, AR) got the start in the circle for the Bucks and went to work. She would record a complete game (7.0 innings) shutout in the outing. She gave up 4 hits, while striking out 6 hitters on the day.

The Bucks scored their runs in two innings. The first run came off a lead off solo home run by Jah'Kaiya Woods (Little Rock, AR) in the bottom of the first inning. The other 5 runs came in the bottom of the third inning. After a Woods single, Abi West (Ida, AR) reached on an error that allowed Woods to score from first base. Next at-bat, Madelynn Lacaze (Gladewater, TX) singled to score West from second base. After a double, Presleigh Payne (Grapevine, TX) hit into a fielder's choice that scored a run. Another run scored on a Kristen McMillan (Winnsboro, TX) ground out. With 2 outs, Kayleigh Anderson (Forrest City, AR) reached on an error that plated a run to make it 6-0.

Blaire Gentry (11-8) won her eleventh game of the season in the win.

GAME TWO

Caitlyn Mayo (Bigelow, AR) got the start in the circle. She would go 4.0 innings in the contest, giving up 4 runs (2 earned) on 3 hits. She would strike out 2 and walk 3 in the outing.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first, the Bucks would scratch across a run with 2 outs. After a hit-by-pitch and a single, Western Mussett (Garvin, OK) hit a RBI single to right field to cut the lead to 2-1, but Northeast Texas added 2 more runs in the top of the second to lead 4-1.

Brookelyn Coffey (Sims, AR) entered the game in the top of the fifth inning in the circle. She would finish the game in the circle, giving up a run in the top of the seventh inning. The Bucks trailed 5-1 and would get the chance in the bottom half to extend or win the game. However, the Bucks stranded a pair of runners to fall 5-1.

Caitlyn Mayo (9-9) got the loss in the outing.

The Bucks are back in action on Monday at NOC-Tonkawa for a region doubleheader.
