Softball Wins Season Series with Carl Albert

(March 8, 2022) Mena, Arkansas – Coming off a losing a doubleheader at now #4 Seminole State, the Bucks look to get back into the win column with a doubleheader against Carl Albert State College. The Bucks did have good days offensively on Saturday and look to carry that momentum into today's games. The Bucks faced the Lady Vikings earlier this season and fell 11-3 in five innings.

GAME ONE

Getting the start in the circle was Caitlyn Mayo (Bigelow, AR). She would go 6.1 innings, giving up 7 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits. She struck out a lone hitter and walked 5 in the outing.

After a scoreless top of the first, the Bucks opened the scoring in the bottom half. Kayleigh Anderson (Forrest City, AR) reached on a 1-out single and then stole second base. In the next at-bat on ball four, she would advance to third and went home on an overthrow during a run down between first and second base. Kristen McMillan (Winnsboro, TX) then came to the plate and hit a RBI double down the left field line. The Bucks would strand the bases loaded but held a 2-0 lead after one.

After a scoreless second inning, Carl Albert tied the game in the top of the third before taking the lead in the top of the fourth, 4-2. The Bucks would take the lead back in the bottom of the fifth. Avery Cotten (Longview, TX) walked with the bases loaded to score a run before Jah'Kaiya Woods (Little Rock, AR) picked up a 2-RBI double to left center with no outs. Next at-bat, Kayleigh Anderson hit a sac fly to right field to plate another run. Madelynn Lacaze (Gladewater, TX) singled to the right side to pick up another RBI. After she stole second, Madelynn scored on a RBI double by Abi West (Ida, AR). After a single, Presleigh Payne (Grapevine, TX) singled on a line drive to plate West. After a walk that loaded the bases, Kristen McMillan took home on a passed ball to make it 10-4 after five innings.

After a scoreless sixth, Mayo gave up a run in the top of the seventh before being chased from the game. Brooke Detommaso (Las Vegas, NV) came on in relief to record the final 2 outs but not before the Lady Vikings scored 2 more runs. However, the Bucks hung on to a 10-7 win.

Caitlyn Mayo (5-3) picked up the win in the game.

GAME TWO

Blaire Gentry (Lockesburg, AR) got the start in the circle. She would throw 3 scoreless innings in the outing.

Gentry put up a zero in the top of the first. The Bucks looked to have a big inning and did with a 12-run inning. With 1 out and the bases loaded, Blaire Gentry and Chloe Ray (Fort Smith, AR) hit back-to-back RBI singles to open the scoring. Back-to-back-to-back walks plated three more runs before Jah'Kaiya Woods hit up hard ground ball up the middle and picked up another RBI. Next at-bat, Abi West plated two more runs on a single to the centerfield. Three hitters later and 2 outs, Woods scored on passed ball. Blaire Gentry would continue to help herself out with a 2 RBI double. Chloe Ray then traded places with her to make it 12-0 after an inning.

Gentry would work herself out of a bases loaded jam to put another zero on the scoreboard in the top of the second. After a walk and single, the Bucks would execute a first and third play that resulted in a run and a runner ending up on third. Next at-bat, pinch hitter Sydney Smith (Siloam Springs, AR) would hit a 2-RBI double. Two hitters later and 1 out, Presleigh Payne traded places with Smith. The Bucks would plate another run on a bunt to extend the lead to 17-0 after two innings.

The game was called after the top of the third inning due to darkness. The Bucks would win 17-0.

Blaire Gentry (2-3) picked up her second win of the season.

The Bucks play again at home on Thursday against Murray State College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 pm.
