Softball Ends Season in Region Tournament

(May 14, 2021) Muskogee, OK – Coming off a first round loss, the Bucks found themselves in the loser's bracket of the Region 2 Tournament. The quest sounds simple. Win and stay alive but lose and the season is over. The Bucks faced Eastern Oklahoma State College. The Bucks and Lady Mountaineers split on the season.

The Bucks would strand a couple runners in the first two innings. In the circle, Hannah Hunter (Malvern, AR) got the start after picking up the Bucks two wins to make the tournament earlier this week. She would also throw two scoreless innings.

The Bucks got it going in the third inning. Leah Wilkins (Van Buren, AR) led off and was hit by a pitch. After an out, Ashton Daniel (Rockwall, TX) singled to put two runners on. With 2 outs, Madelynn Lacaze (Union Grove, TX) singled to score Wilkins from 2nd. Gracie Kimbrell (North Little Rock, AR) walked to load the bases for Maddi Miles (Jonesboro, AR). Maddi hit a 2-RBI single to left field. After Ashlee Gurley (Logansport, LA) singled, a Kristen McMillan (Winnsboro, TX) walk plated a run. Coming back around to the where it started, Leah Wilkins hit an RBI single to left field, but the inning ended on a play at the plate. Bucks led 5-0 midway through the third.

Hunter would give up a run in both the bottom of the third and 4th innings. The Bucks were held scoreless before Eastern tied the game in the bottom of the 5th. Hunter was chased from the game in the half inning. Brooke Detommaso (Las Vegas, NV) came on to pitch in the inning.

After a scoreless to of the sixth, Detommaso gave up 3 runs, including a 2-run homer. The Bucks needed 3 runs to extend the game, but a double play ended the game. Bucks fall 8-5.
