Bucks Swept by NEO

(May 1, 2021) Miami, Oklahoma – Coming off a series split with Rose State on Tuesday and getting rained out on Thursday, the Bucks continued their quest to the region tournament with a trip to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Game 1

There was not much to highlight for the Bucks in the game. NEO would score 5 runs in the first, 3 in the second, 9 in the third, and 1 in the fourth to win 18-0 in 5 innings. The Lady Norse hit 6 homers in the game. The Bucks would record 2 hits in the game, but only struck out twice in the loss.

Autumn Powell (Mena, AR) (5-4) got the start for the Bucks and lasted 1.1 innings. She would give up 8 runs on 7 hits. Mackenzie Person (Bonham, TX) came on in relief and pitched 2.2 innings, giving up 10 runs (5 earned) on 9 hits.

Game 2

Getting it started in the fourth game of the series, Madelynn Lacaze (Union Grove, TX) doubled to lead it off and advanced to third on a ground out. Gracie Kimbrell (North Little Rock, AR) would ground out to the right side, but Lacaze was able to score as the Bucks led 1-0 after the top half. Kimbrell got the start in the circle and gave up a double, triple, and another double as the Lady Norse took a 2-1 lead before adding another to make it 3-1 after an inning.

The Bucks went scoreless before NEO put up 6 runs in the bottom of the 2nd. In the 3rd, Madelynn Lacaze would go yard for her 14th homer of the season. In the bottom half, Brooke Detommaso (Las Vegas, NV) would come on to start the 3rd inning in the circle and gave up 3 runs as NEO extended their lead to 12-2.

In the 4th, the Bucks battled and plated a couple runs. Madison Humphry (Murfreesboro, AR) led off with a single to left field. She would advance to second base on a ground out. Two hitters later, Lauren Buss (Clarksville, AR) pinch hit and doubled to centerfield to plate Humphry. Next at-bat, Hannah Hunter (Malvern, AR) singled to center to score Buss from second base to cut the lead to 12-4. In the bottom half, NEO increased their lead to 13-4 heading into the 5th inning.

The Bucks went in order to end the game. NEO wins 13-4 in 5 innings.

In the loss, Gracie Kimbrell pitched 2 innings, giving up 9 runs (7 earned) on 7 hits. Brooke Detommaso pitched 2 innings, giving up 4 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits.

Both losses give the Bucks a 18-32 overall record and an 8-18 record in region play.
