Bucks Double Dipped at Western Oklahoma

(April 17, 2021) Altus, Oklahoma – Coming off a season split with Eastern Oklahoma at home on Thursday, the Bucks made the trip to Western Oklahoma State College to take on the Lady Pioneers.

Game 1

The first game was controlled completely by Western Oklahoma. The Lady Pioneers scored 3 runs in the 1st, 3 in the 2nd, 5 in the 3rd, and another 3 in the 4th inning. Brooke Detommaso (Las Vegas, NV) (0-1) got the start and lasted 2.1 innings, giving up 11 runs on 12 hits. Making her first appearance in the circle for the season, Mackenzie Person (Bonham, TX) pitched 1.2 innings, giving up 3 runs, none earned, on 4 hits.

The Bucks were unable to produce any runs on the day. Western had a perfect game until Maggie Lilly (Mt. Pleasant, TX) broke it up in the top of the 5th with a single. Ashlee Gurley (Logansport, LA) walked with 1 out before Sydney Smith (Siloam Springs, AR) hit into a fielder's choice. But a strikeout ended the game and stranded 2 runners on the corners. Western wins, 14-0, in 5 innings.

Game 2

The second game started a lot like the first. Western would score 3 runs in the 1st and 2nd innings and another run in the 3rd. Hannah Hunter (Malvern, AR) got the start in the circle for the Bucks.

The Bucks offense woke up a little in the 4th inning. Madelynn Lacaze (Union Grove, TX) led off with a single. With 1 out, Autumn Powell (Mena, AR) appeared to sacrifice bunt, but an error allowed her to reach and both runners advanced to 2nd and 3rd. Next at-bat, Maddi Miles (Jonesboro, AR) singled to right field and scored Lacaze. Kristen McMillan (Winnsboro, TX) kept it going with an RBI single to score Powell. Ashlee Gurley bunted to load the bases, but a double play ended the Bucks threat, trailing 7-2.

After Hunter put up a zero in the bottom half, the Bucks plated 2 more runs in the top of the 5th. Ashton Daniel (Rockwall, TX) singled and advanced to 2nd on Hannah Hunter's sac bunt. With 1 out, Madelynn Lacaze would hit her 11th homer of the season, a 2-run shot to left field. The homer cut the WOSC lead to 7-4 midway through the 5th.

After giving up a 1 out homer and double, Hunter was chased from the game. Autumn Powell moved over in the circle from 1st base. She would give up a single that increased the WOSC lead to 9-4 after 5 innings.

After a scoreless 6th inning, the Bucks need a big inning to extend the game. With 1 out in the 7th, Gracie Kimbrell drew a walk to bring Madelynn Lacaze to the plate. Madelynn would hit a 2-run bomb for her 12th homer of the season and 5th of the week to cut the lead to 9-6. Next at-bat, Maggie Lilly doubled to left field, but a ground out and fly out ended the game.

In the loss, Hannah Hunter (3-8) threw 4.1 innings, giving up 9 runs (7 earned) on 9 hits. She would strikeout 4 and walk 7 in the outing.

Both losses bring the Bucks record to 15-25 overall and 5-13 in region play.

The Bucks play again on Tuesday at NOC-Tonkawa.
