XC Competes at Chile Pepper Festival; Men Finish 21st in Prairie Fire 8K

(September 29, 2023) Fayetteville, Arkansas - Coming off a tough run at Oklahoma State University last Saturday, Bucks Cross Country's competition did not get any easier this week. The Bucks travelled to Fayetteville to compete in the Chile Pepper Festival. Both teams competed in the Prairie Fire races.

Women's Prairie Fire 5K 

The ladies were down to just two runners for this race with an injury to Jadelynn Wood (Mansfield, AR). The Bucks were led by Karen Campos (Pittsburg, TX), finishing 109th with a time of 23:52.8. Adriana Montiel (De Queen, AR) wasn't far behind with a time of 24:33.4 and finished 121st out of 179 runners.

Men's Prairie Fire 8K

The men were looking to continue to improve as a team on Friday evening. Several Region II opponents were competing in the race, including Northwest Arkansas CC, Carl Albert State College, & National Park College. Springdale's Angel Cordero (Springdale, AR) led the way for the Bucks, finishing 77th in the 8K race with a time of 29:04.3. Following him was Tommy Banks (Houston, TX). Banks finished with a time of 31:11.6 in 150th place. There were 272 runners in the race.

152nd - Emmanuel Cartegena (Sherman, TX) - 31:14.8

171st - Yermy Gonzalez (Horatio, AR) - 32:03.9

172nd - Brian Monterroza (Fort Smith, AR) - 32:04.9

179th - Montana Wesley (Waldron, AR) - 32:19.3

193rd - Desmond Thompson (Fort Smith, AR) - 32:57.8

206th - Luis Morales (Glenwood, AR) - 33:30.2
