Bucks Fall to Connors

Bucks Fall to Connors

(October 20, 2024) Muskogee, Oklahoma - With their playoff hopes still alive, the Bucks took on Connors State on Sunday afternoon. Earlier this season, the Bucks took down the Cowboys at Tapley Park.

The Bucks knew this was a 'must not lose' game, and the pressure was very evident from the start, with many misplaced passes and heavy controlling touches littering the opening minutes. The men were missing key starters due to injury and suspension from yellow card accumulation, which added to the difficulty of the challenge ahead of them. Connors seem to be more motivated than than the Bucks, and as a result, they were rewarded with two quick goals midway through the half. The first was when a striker was left wide open at the far post to score, and the second after a high ball was not collected, leading to a tap in from close range.

The second half was much better from the Bucks as the players found energy they didn't have in that first half. Numerous chances were created but none finished, and unfortunately, some of the scoring opportunities were relatively easy to convert. The Bucks did score through a Muriuki Mwirigi (Nairobi, Kenya) penalty kick near the end. The men tried everything to get the equalizing goal, but they had no luck and their season ended with the final whistle.

Coach Sherry was disappointed for his team. "This season has been one of us shooting ourselves in the foot which has been frustrating. I could tell during the warm up that the team wasn't ready to play, and Connors took advantage of our lethargy. The second half was much better, but it was too late. We leave the field and season with a lot of "what ifs" but it is what it is, and we have to look forward to next season after showing some improvements from the previous season."

The Bucks have one final home game on Wednesday at 4 pm against Rose State College.
