(October 1, 2024) Wilburton, Oklahoma - Coming off a break in their schedule, the Bucks started back the second round of region play on Tuesday afternoon against Eastern Oklahoma State. Last time, the Bucks lost to the Mountaineers 1-0 at home.
This was a very even and competitive game that was decided by three corner kicks. Eastern showed their technical abilities, keeping possession of the ball which UARM answered with compact organized defense looking for lightning counter attacks. The men have been slow starters all season, and once again, they fell down to an early goal in the 5th minute from a corner kick, leaving an Eastern player wide open from six yards. The rest of the half provided chances for both teams, but the killer touch was lacking on both sides of the ball.
The Bucks reorganized for the second half and started to take control of the game. This control led to the goal of the game being scored. Ryan Conquest (Watford, United Kingdom) and Ebrima Jobe (Memphis, TN) combined to beat two eastern players before releasing Taylor Marange (Nuneaton, England) running to the end line. The ball was cut back and Mario Vingarzan (Madrid, Spain) was on hand to finish low with one touch. Just as it looked like UARM would get a well deserved point, they conceded from two corner kicks right at the end of the match.
Coach Sherry was frustrated after the match but positive with his men's team. "The guys played so well and scored a beautiful goal. It is just so frustrating that this team keeps conceding from corner kicks. It has to change if we want to progress this season, but the overall play is good."
The Bucks play again on Sunday at home against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm at Tapley Park.
