Bucks Advance on Penalty Kicks; Make Fourth Straight Region Championship Appearance

(October 28, 2022) Enid, Oklahoma - For the fourth straight season, the Bucks are playing in the Region II Tournament. In years past, the tournament was hosted at Selby Stadium by Enid High School, but this year the tournament moved to Advance Soccer Complex, which is a brand new facility that isn't completely finished. What was finished is a 120 x 75 yard turf field, and the tournament is the first time the field has ever been played on. The Bucks would face the Rose State Raiders in the semi-finals this evening. The Bucks and Raiders have faced each other twice this season, and the Bucks came out on the losing end both times.

The Bucks got the kickoff to start the game and started working their way down field. In the fourth minute, the Bucks opened the scoring on a goal by Yoshua Kibasomba (Memphis, Tennessee) with the assist by Lander Vandevelde Quintero (Guixols, Spain). After the Bucks goal, the men kept attacking and getting opportunities for most of the half, until the Raiders changed momentum in the last 15 minutes of the half. The Bucks defense and goalkeepr Connor Wachtel (Grapevine, TX) kept the Raiders scoreless in the first half.

In the second half, the match went back and forth in the midfield with both groups having opportunities at the goal. Once again in the final 15 minutes of the half, the Raiders made a push and missed an opportunity in the 83rd minute, but they made it count in the 84th with a goal that tied the match at 1-1. The Bucks had opportunities in the final minutes, but the match would go into overtime.

In the first overtime, the Bucks kicked off, but the Raiders maintained possession for most of the 10 minutes, but the Bucks gained momentum toward the end of the period. However, they were unable to score, so the game went into a second overtime period. Both teams would go scoreless in the second overtime, and the match would go to penalty kicks.

In penalty kicks, both teams made their first 2 shots before Connor Wachtel blocked the Raiders third shot and then made the Bucks third shot to give the men a one goal advantage. The Raiders made their fourth and fifth shots, so the Bucks had to make their final shot to advance to the finals. Antonio Galarzo made the final goal to let the Bucks advance to the Region 2 Championship for the fourth straight season!!

Before the match, Antonio Galarzo (Mallacora, Spain), Wachtel, and Kibasomba were named to the All-Region Team.
