Bucks Hold on for First Win of the Season

(September 4, 2022) Tishomingo, Oklahoma – After an emotional loss at home a week ago to Rose State, the Bucks returned to the field to try and get back to even in Region II play. This time, the Bucks would face Murray State College, who the Bucks defeated in the region tournament semi-finals last season on penalty kicks. The Bucks are 0-1 in the region, while Murray State is 1-1.

In the first half, the Bucks would take an 2-0 lead on 5 shots with 4 being on goal. Bailey Sawyer (Brechin, Scotland) found the back of the net in the 18th minute off a free kick from an Aggie foul. Josh Dhillon (Warrington, England) took the free kick and found Sawyer for the goal. With less than 5 minutes left in the half, Lushil Abbia (Johannesburg, South Africa) played a cross to Yoshua Kibasomba (Memphis, TN), and he found the back of the net to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead. Even though the Bucks held a lead, the Aggies went at the Bucks defense and goalkeeper Connor Wachtel (Grapevine, TX). The freshmen recorded 7 saves in the first half.

Clinging to the 2-0 lead, the Bucks were looking to control the second half and put the game away. Murray State continued to pressure the Bucks defense and finally broke through for a goal in the 67th minute to cut the lead to 2-1, but the Bucks defense held strong to preserve the 2-1 win. In the match, Connor Wachtel recorded a total of 16 saves in the match.

The men return to action at home on Wednesday, September 7th, against Eastern Oklahoma State College. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 pm at Tapley Park.
