Bucks Sweep ASU Mid-South

(April 14, 2024) Mena, Arkansas - Coming off a 12-0 win on Friday in Millington, the Bucks were able to secure the season series win over ASU Mid-South. This afternoon, the men were wanting to get the sweep over the Greyhounds. 

Game One

To kick off the day, the Bucks handled the Greyhounds 10-1 in the seventh inning contest. Austin Rainey (Conway, AR) got the start on the bump and went the distance, pitching 7.0 innings. Rainey (5-3) gave up 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 3 in the outing.

Offensively, the Bucks scored 9 runs in the first three innings and added anotehr run in the bottom of the sixth inning. In the game, nobody was better at the plate than Trace Watkins (Sheridan, AR), going 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and 2 RBIs. Ian Smith (Bismarck, AR) recorded a triple on the day with a RBI that came on a sac fly, while Caleb Bryant (North Little Rock, AR) hit a 2-RBI single in the contest. Trevor Flake (North Little Rock, AR) and Diego Archila (Baton Rouge, LA) each drove in a run to round out the scoring. 

The Bucks scored their 10 runs on 8 hits, while also walking 3 times and being hit by a pitch 3 other times. 

Game Two

The Bucks struggled to get anything going offensively for the first three innings and were down 1-0 until the bottom of the fourth inning. After a single and walk, Diego Archila delivered on a 2-RBI single single to left field to give the Bucks the 2-1 lead after four innings, but the Greyhounds tied the game in the top of the fifth inning, 2-2. 

The Bucks would break the tie in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Caleb Bryant 2-RBI triple to right centerfield to make it 4-2 after six innings. This would end up being the final score.

Ian Smith got the start on the mound for the Bucks and lasted 7.2 innings. He would give up 2 runs (1 earned) and strike out 6. Smith (2-1) gets the win, while Shuto Okumura (Takatsuki, Japan) recorded his second save of the season, pitching the final 1.1 innings. 

The win puts the Bucks over .500 on the season at 20-19 overall, but more importantly, the Bucks are 16-4 in region play. The Bucks have a big 4-game series this coming week against South Arkansas. Thursday will be played at Henderson State University, and Saturday will be in Eldorado.
