Rangers open season with 3-0 win

The Ranger College men's soccer team got its 2021 season off to a solid start on Saturday by powering its way to a 3-0 victory over Rich Mountain at Tapley Park in Mena, Ark.

"We played well and controlled the ball throughout the game," said RC head coach Rafael Gonzalez.

The Rangers displayed their high-powered offense early and often against Rich Mountain, the defending Region 2 champion. Ranger scored three times in the first half and never looked back. As a team, RC scored on one-third of its nine shots on goal in the contest.

Matias Madriga got the Rangers on the board early. He booted a deflected pass into the Rich Mountain goal just 1:34 into Ranger's matchup.

Madriga's goal would stand as the game's only score until the 22nd minute of the opening half when Sergia Mejia Campos took a pass from Nickell Alexander drilled it into the goal.

Daniel Sanchez finished off the Rangers' first-half assault with a goal in the final 30 seconds of the frame. Bryan Rivas was credited with an assist on the play.

Ranger will return to action on April 13 when they host Hill College at Rangers Field. The game will begin at 4 p.m.
