(April 6, 2022) Mena, Arkansas - With new Head Men's and Women's Soccer Casey Weil beginning his campaign last November, he has been hitting the recruiting trail hard for both players and coaches for his Fall 2022 seasons. Assistant Women's Soccer Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Breezie Davis joined the Bucks in early February and has hit the ground running for the women's program. Now, Coach Weil is excited to announce Maria Surluson as the Men's & Women's Assistant & Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Maria comes to UA Rich Mountain after having spent her first three years in the coaching world as the Graduate Assistant for University of Central Arkansas' women's soccer program. During her time at UCA, she helped lead the Bears to a Conference Championship in 2021 and coached several All-Conference Players during the 2019, 2020, and 2021 seasons.
Sturluson was born and raised in Copenhagen, Denmark. She came to the U.S. in 2014 to pursue a degree while playing collegiate soccer. Prior to coming to UCA, Maria played at Lewis & Clark Community College, then transferred to Missouri Southern State University where she graduated in 2019 with a Bachelor's Degree in Health Promotion and Wellness. She most recently graduated from UCA with a Master's Degree in Exercise Science.
Coach Weil is very excited about the addition to his staff. "Coach Breezie Davis has been a great addition since joining us in February, recruiting and coaching this Spring. With the addition of Maria this summer, we will have a well-rounded staff with college playing and coaching experience, along with somebody very familiar with the international recruiting process. Also, we are excited to have Coach Sturluson's background in coaching and exercise to help our teams in both in-season and off-season weights and conditioning. Fall can't get here soon enough!"
Maria will be the assistant for both the men's and women's soccer programs, along with handling the strength and conditioning for both teams. She is slated to start at UARM this summer in June.
Coach Weil will be adding one more position to his staff for the men's program. It will be the Men's Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator to be announced at a later date.
