Little Rock, Arkansas – To wrap up their regular season, the women of Bucks Cross Country travelled to War Memorial Park to compete in the Little Rock Open. The women competed against NCAA D1 & D2 programs, along with several NAIA schools from around the state. In the women's 5K race, there were 99 competitors.
With only three runners, the Bucks were unable to compete as a team. Just like the men's, Central Arkansas won the race with 39 points. Coming in first for the Bucks was Miriam Mendez (Fort Smith, AR) with a time of 22:09.6. This was good enough for 52nd place. Next, Mendez's twin sister, Marlenne Mendez, finished in 68th place with a time of 23:19.0. Mena's own Faith Hill finished in 82nd place with a time of 24:45.4. Cabot's Shannan Gardner was unable to compete due to an ankle injury while trail running this week.
Coach Shores is proud of her women's team this season. "We've had a good year, despite the circumstances. We've had bad luck with recruits having serious injuries and not being able to attend this fall. My four girls have done everything I've asked and competed their tails off. We've had two 2nd place finishes this year, including finishing as Runner-Ups in the Regional Championship. Each of the girls have their own goal for the National Championship. Each of my sophomores want to have their best race of their Bucks' career in Albuquerque."
The women will be back in action on November 9th in Albuquerque, New Mexico at the NJCAA D1 National Championship.
