Women’s XC Finishes as Runner-Up in Regional Championship

Mena, Arkansas – Five schools from NJCAA Region 2 took the course on a cold and wet Saturday morning at the Lion's Club Disc Golf Course to determine the regional championship. Runners ran a 5K race (3.1 miles) and tried to bring the championship back to their respective schools, Carl Albert State College, Connors State College, National Park College, Redlands Community College, and UA Rich Mountain.

In the one lap, 5K race, Redlands flexed their muscles landing the top runners with Kyra Bentley and Yadira Jaramillo finishing 1st and 2nd. Rounding out the top 3 was Carl Albert's Alayna Fielder. The Bucks would finish 4th and 5th with Marlenne Mendez (22:52.1) and Miriam Mendez (23:09.3). Sophomore Faith Hill (23:36.4) and freshmen Shannan Gardner (23:55.2) would finish 7th and 8th to round out the scoring for the Bucks. Even though the Bucks four scoring runners finished before any other team, Redlands would have two runners round out the top 10 to wrap up the regional championship in the team competition.

The team competition was a tight race that was up for grabs. With Redlands having the top two runners and two more in the top 10, they edged out the women of Bucks XC by two points. Redlands finished with 22 points to the Bucks 24 points. Carl Albert rounded out the top three with 32 points.

The Bucks still have two races left this season, next Saturday at the Little Rock Open (hosted by UALR) and the National Championship in Albuquerque, New Mexico on November 9th.

The Bucks would like to thank the following for their continued support and help this season: Lion's Club, Dr. Michael Wood, Chip Koppein APRN, Keith Willsey, and Samantha Maechler Photography.
