Bucks Dominate and Shutout Redlands CC

Mena, Arkansas – The Rich Mountain Bucks (2-9-2 overall; 2-6-2) faced the Redlands Lady Cougars (1-12 overall; 0-9-0) at Bearcat Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The Bucks had a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half and would go on to win 3-0 for their second win of Region II play.

To start the first half, the Bucks and Lady Cougars traded shots. A nice defensive save by Kateya Jacobz (Durban, South Africa) saved a goal for the Bucks. Madison Zamudio (Mansfield, TX) fired both of the early shots for the Bucks. In the 15th minute, Tatum Moore (Lonoke, AR) gave the Bucks the lead on a breakaway goal. Inek Johnson (Lubbock, TX) assisted Moore by clearing the ball from her center mid role after a RCC turnover. After two Lady Cougar shots with saves by Arcelia Marquez (Lubbock, TX), it would be all Bucks the rest of the way in the rest of the half. The Bucks maintained offensive possession and fired away 10 shots, but all came up empty leading to a halftime score of 1-0 in favor of Rich Mountain.

The Bucks wasted no time after the 10-minute half. After a Tatum Moore shot, the Lady Cougars defender saved a goal, but it resulted in corner kick for the Bucks. A combination play off the corner lead to a goal by Maria Diedrick (Merrivale, South Africa) that was assisted by Monica Boyes (Abilene, TX). The Bucks offense continued to possess the ball and kept the Redlands goal keeper busy. In the 82nd minute, Monica Boyes scored a goal of her own to extend the Bucks lead. The goal was assisted by Isabel Martinez (New Hamburg, Ontario). The goal would be the final score of the match. The Bucks won 3-0.

The Bucks controlled the match entirely recording 29 shots to the Lady Cougars' 8. Of the 29 shots, 17 were on frame. The RCC keeper recorded 12 saves and Arcelia Marquez had 3 saves on the afternoon. The Bucks also had 3 corner kicks, one which led to the second goal of the match.

The women will be back in action on Wednesday, October 16th, verses Bacone College at Bearcat Stadium. The match is slated to begin at 5:30 pm with the men to follow at 7:30 pm.
