Bucks and Lady Mountaineers Play to Draw

Mena, Arkansas – The Rich Mountain Bucks (1-5-2 overall; 1-2-2) played Eastern Oklahoma State College (4-2-1 overall; 2-2-1) on September 26th at Bearcat Stadium. The match went into double overtime and ended in a draw, 0-0.

In the first half, the Bucks looked to take control early with two shots by Isabel Martinez (New Hamburg, Ontario) and one by Madison Zamudio (Mansfield, TX); however, EOSC would counter with an attack of their own. With just 13 minutes into the match, the Bucks' Nicole Martinez (Houston, TX) received a yellow card. Monica Boyes (Abilene, TX) would get into the action for the Bucks with two shots of her own followed by another shot by Zamudio. The combo of Boyes, Zamudio, and Maria Saldana (Houston, TX) would continue the Bucks offensive pursuit, but all would come up empty to leave the score tied at the half. EOSC's bench personnel would receive a yellow card to finish the half.

The second half would be similar to the first half with the Bucks looking to strike early. Madison Zamudio fired away again with a shot and Maria Saldana followed with two of her own. Eastern countered with an offensive attack of their own, but goalkeeper Arcelia Marquez (Lubbock, TX) would make a great save 15 minutes into the half. The save resulted in a corner kick for Lady Mountaineers, but the effort would wind up without a goal. Zamudio continued her offensive attacked followed by Inek Johnson (Lubbock, TX) and Tatum Moore (Cabot, AR) striking shots of their own. Both teams would trade shots with roughly 10 minutes left in the half. Nicole Martinez received her second yellow card of the day, which resulted in her ejection from the match. Both the Bucks and Lady Mountaineers made attacks to finish the second half.

To start the overtime period, the Bucks would be playing a player down due to the ejection. However, Coach Brian Byrd made an adjustment to go with a more offensive attack. The Bucks would control the first overtime with a shot by Madison Zamudio and Monica Boyes, but both were saved by the EOSC keeper, Jordan Hamilton. In the second over, Zamudio would have 3 shots while her teammates Maria Saldana and Inek Johnson tried to find the back of the net. EOSC would get one shot off, but the match would end in a draw, 0-0.

For the match, the Bucks offense produced 26 shots (17 on goal) compared to EOSC's 11 (6 on goal). EOSC would have five corner kicks to the Bucks' two. Keeper Arcelia Marquez recorded 5 saves on the day, while EOSC keeper Jordan Hamilton would have 13.
