El Reno, Oklahoma – Women's Soccer visited Redlands Community College and came away with their first win in program history. Not only was this the first win in program history, it was also the Bucks first win in Region II play bringing their overall record to 1-4-1 (1-1-1) on the year.
The Bucks controlled the entire first half and wasted no time scoring. Mansfield, TX native Madison Zamudio scored from 30 yards out just 2 minutes and 20 seconds into the match. Much of the first half was spent on the Bucks' offensive side of the field that resulted in many shots and 3 corner kicks for the Bucks' offense. Fifteen minutes after Zamudio's goal, Arkansas native Tatum Moore (Cabot, AR) scored a goal of her own. She was assisted by Maria Diedrick of Merrivale, South Africa. The score would stick as the Bucks lead 2-0 at the half.
The second half started a little slower as Redlands CC added a goal of their own at the 54:58 mark by Honor Sagebiel to cut the Bucks lead to 2-1. The goal ignited the Bucks offense and lead to the Bucks possessing the ball more and making runs to kickstart the Bucks offense. With 10 minutes left in the match, Tatum Moore found the back of the net again to make it 3-1 in the Bucks favor. She was assisted by Leigha Wilkinson (Alma, AR). The goal sealed the first win in school history and in Region II play.
The Bucks controlled the entire game as the women had 25 total shots (14 on goal) compared to Redlands 8 (5 on goal). The Lady Cougars' keeper, Kennedy Hendren had a busy afternoon and recorded 8 saves. Fort Worth, TX native Briana Salinas recorded 3 saves for the Bucks defense. Also, the Bucks had 4 corner kicks on the afternoon.
Coach Brian Byrd was excited for his team after the game. "It was a big win for our women's program. We've been working extremely hard, and I told the girls the wins would come. This will kick start us and help us push forward during conference play." The Bucks are currently 1-1-1 in Region II play and are sitting in the middle of the 8 team field.
The women will be back in action on Sunday, September 22nd, at 2 pm vs. Seminole State College at Bearcat Stadium in Mena.
