Bucks Sweep SAU Tech

(April 30, 2023) Mena, Arkansas - The Bucks are in a battle for their postseason life in the final two weeks of the season. The Bucks swept SAU Tech on Friday at Union Bank Field and were looking to do the same on Sunday. Not only did the Bucks sweep SAU Tech, but the Bucks outscored the Rockets 62-21 in the four game series. The win moves the Bucks to 22-27 overall and 14-18 in region play. The sweep moves the Bucks up in the region standings with a series remaining against National Park. 

SAU Tech series by the numbers:

Setting Records - Cooper White (Benton, AR) broke a pair of school records in the series. He is now the single season record holder for hit-by-pitches and stolen bases. He also became the career record holder for hit-by-pitches. He got plunked 4 times in the series with the Rockets and now has 21 on the season and 30 in his career with 4 games remaining.

Average - The Bucks hit .442 as a team in the series with the Rockets. White led the Bucks with a .692 average on the week.

Hits - The Bucks recorded 53 hits on the week, including 15 doubles, a triple, and 5 home runs.

Home Runs - Five different Bucks hit the big ball, including Trent Smith's (Longview, TX) grandslam in game three. 

RBIs - White led the Bucks with 12 RBIs. Ten other men recorded 4 or more RBIs on the week, including Kolby Webb (Cabot, AR) with 7 and Smith with 6. 

Runs - As mentioned before the Bucks scored 62 runs in the four games. Caleb Bryant (Little Rock, AR) and Randon Ray (Booneville, AR) scored 11 and 10 runs, respectively. 

Walks - The Bucks took 33 free bases on the weekend: 23 from walks and 10 from hit-by-pitches. Ray also was plunked 4 times in the series.

Stolen Bases - The men swiped 20 bases with Trevor Flake (North Little Rock, AR) and Ray stealing 5 a piece. 

Wins - Three of the Bucks starting pitcher recorded wins in the series: Deuce Yaksick (Frisco, TX), Hunter Alexander (Bigelow, AR), and Jack Henry Pettit (Brookland, AR). Aden Almeida (Rogers, AR) got the win in the initial game of the week in relief.

ERA - The staff recorded a 3.77 ERA on the weekend.

Strikeouts - The staff recorded 26 Ks in the series and only walked 8. 

The men now just have a 4-game series left with National Park to finish up the regular season. The series begins on Thursday, May 4th, in Hot Springs at Majestic Park. The series concludes on Saturday, May 6th, at Union Bank Field. The Bucks will celebrate sophomore day on the 6th.
