Bucks Win Series Against Arkansas Baptist

(February 12, 2022) Mena, Arkansas – Coming off their first win of the season on Thursday in Little Rock, the Bucks returned home to host the Arkansas Baptist Buffaloes on a cold Saturday afternoon.

Getting the start today for the Bucks was last year's Arkansas Gatorade Player of the Year, Jackson Wells (Rogers, AR). After hitting the first hitter of the game, he would settle in and throw 4 innings, giving up 0 runs on 0 hits. Jack struck out five on the day.

After a scoreless top half, the Bucks got things rolling offensively in the first inning was lead off hitter Chase Webb (El Dorado, AR). After an error landed him on second base and taking third on a pass ball with 2 outs, Luke Rice (Scott, AR) hit his second triple of the season to left center field to give the Bucks a one run lead before scoring on a ground ball to the shortstop by Wesley Featherston (Hope, AR) to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead after an inning.

Wells put up another scoreless inning in the second before the Bucks added to their lead. After a walk and steal by Jackson Baker (Sherwood, AR), Trace Watkins (Sheridan, AR) hit a liner to right field that ended up as a RBI triple. Next at-bat, Chase Webb picked up a RBI on a groundout to third base. A series of hit by pitches, walks, and errors plated 5 runs for the Bucks before Cole Clark (Clarksville, AR) hit a RBI triple. The Bucks plated another run to give them an 11-0 lead after two.

A one, two, three top half of the third brought the Bucks back to hit. Casey Shipley (Prairie Grove, AR) led off with the Bucks fourth triple of the game before scoring on a 1 out RBI double by Wesley Featherston. After walk, Connor Bise (Heber Springs, AR) picked up a RBI single, then Trace Watkins followed with a hit of the same result to make it 14-0 after three innings.

After sprinkling in some lineup changes in the third, Coach Spigner made more before the top of the fourth. Wells came back on in the fourth to finish out his day and put up another zero on the board to complete his day.

Randy Little Jr. (Pine Bluff, AR) came on to pitch for the Bucks in the fifth inning and threw two scoreless innings. The Bucks added more runs in the bottom of the sixth. With two runners on, Carter Day (Ashdown, AR) doubled to right field before Jacob Watkins (Cooter, MO) hit a 2-RBI triple to increase the Bucks lead. After a hit by pitch scored a run, Trace Watkins would double to plate 2 runs on a double before an error led to two more runs for the Bucks. Three hitters later and the bases loaded, Carter Day picked up another RBI on a single to left field to make it 23-0 after six innings.

Travis Daniel (Dekalb, TX) made his first appearance of the year in the top of the seventh and recorded three strikeouts to end the game.

All three pitchers combined for a no-hitter on the day.

The Bucks play again on Friday and Saturday next weekend in a 4-game series against Frontier Community College.
