Bucks Shutout OKWU JV

(April 13, 2021) Bartlesville, OK – Coming off a series split with region foe NOC – Tonkawa, the Bucks travelled to Oklahoma Wesleyan University to take on their JV squad Tuesday afternoon. The Bucks drive home with a 3-0 win over the Eagles.

The Bucks would go scoreless through the first 2 innings. Daegan Covington (Taylor, AR) got the start on the bump for the Bucks. He would record 2 strikeouts and hold the Eagles scoreless through the first 2 frames.

The Bucks got on the scoreboard in the top of the 3rd inning. Cole Clark (Clarksville, AR) would reach on a 1 out walk. He would steal 2nd during the next at-bat. With 2 outs, Luke Rice (Scott, AR) hit an RBI single to plate Clark to give the Bucks a 1-0 lead. Covington once again recorded another strikeout in the bottom of the 3rd to put the Eagles down in order.

The Bucks pushed another run across in the 4th inning. Preston Lee (Maumelle, AR) doubled to lead off the inning followed by a Tristan Doucet (Lake Arthur, LA) walk. Lee would score on a fielder's choice by Mason Reynolds (Fort Worth, TX) to give the Bucks a 2-0 lead. Covington gave up a single with 2 outs, but he would strikeout the next batter he faced to keep the lead at 2-0 after 4 innings.

In the 5th, the Bucks stranded a couple runners but were held scoreless. Daegan Covington struck out his 5th batter of the game to send the game into the 6th inning. In the 6th, the Bucks once again stranded 2 base runners. In the bottom half, Ike Pelts (Lamar, AR) came on to pitch with 2-0 lead. He would record 2 strikeouts in the inning to put the Eagles down in order.

In the final inning, the Bucks added an insurance run. Dan Taylor (Rogers, AR) was hit by a pitch to lead it off before he stole 2nd. He advanced to 3rd on an error during a ground out. With 1 out, Isaac Price (Siloam Springs, AR) singled to centerfield to plate Taylor. The run ended the scoring on the day. In the bottom half, Pelts gave up a bunt single, but he was able to record 2 more strikeouts to hold the Eagles scoreless. Bucks win 3-0.

In the win, Daegan Covington (1-1) pitched 5 innings of shutout ball. He gave up 0 runs on 3 hits and recorded 5 strikeouts. Picking up the 2 innings save, Ike Pelts gave up 0 runs on 1 hit and struck out 4.

The Bucks are back in action on Thursday at Union Bank Field against NOC – Enid. First pitched is scheduled for 1 pm.
